What is Storytime with Piedmont Opera?
A Piedmont Opera singer reads an engaging book from our new children’s library at an established storytime. During or following the reading, the singer demonstrates their operatic voice and talks about what it’s like to be an opera singer. Kids and caretakers are encouraged to meet-and-greet the artist afterward, and all kids receive a sticker. Stories are selected by the organization, Piedmont Opera staff, and the storyteller/singer. The book read is then donated to the host organization’s own library.
What is the purpose of Storytime?
-
To introduce opera as a classic and accessible artform to young children and their families and caretakers
-
To promote literacy, art, and music to our youngest learners by reading aloud engaging and age-appropriate books
-
To reach underserved communities and reduce barriers to access by traveling to existing neighborhood storytimes
-
To support the missions of local storytimes by providing a unique and up-close experience with professional opera singers
-
To increase exposure of Piedmont Opera in the community and to young families by providing a memorable experience
-
To increase exposure of artists affiliated with Piedmont Opera by putting them in front of new and young audiences
-
To reach an entire demographic typically excluded from opera
-
To create an exposure opportunity to inspire the next generation
