OPTIONAL TOURS
Georgia O’Keeffe Country & Abiquiu Home & Studio
6 – 7 hours

This is a spectacular trip for natural scenery, truly a trip into the essence of the American Southwest where we immerse in the landscape that captivated artist Georgia O’Keeffe’s heart and palate for much of her life.
We’ll travel up the Chama River Valley to Abiquiu, a Spanish/Indian settlement where O’Keeffe had her winter home.
We’ll continue along the cottonwood-lined Chama River to Ghost Ranch where she spent her summers painting the yellow and red cliffs that tower over the colored sands of the valley below.
At the Ghost Ranch, a former Dude Ranch, and now a conference center, we’ll see one of New Mexico’s best dinosaur exhibits where fossils from the local red cliffs are displayed. Options for walking and photography abound.
We’ll have lunch out in the beauty.
In the afternoon, we’ll take a special docent led tour of O’Keeffe’s home in Abiquiu.

$ 175 per person includes: guide, transportation, entrance to Ghost Ranch and O’Keeffe house tour, water, snacks, lunch

Bandelier National Monument
5 hours

Nearly everyone has heard of the Anasazi, the ancestors of today’s Pueblo Indians who left interesting village sites scattered across the Southwest in such places as Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, Canyon de Chelley and Bandelier.

This trip offers our guests a voyage into the past and the fascinating world of the Ancestral Puebloan people. As we travel north from Santa Fe, your guide will give an introduction to the geography and people of New Mexico. We cross the Rio Grande valley and travel up into the Jemez Mountains, an unusual volcanic mountain range. We make a stop at a spectacular overlook then proceed to Bandelier National Monument, a 34,000-acre park managed by the National Park Service at the heart of what was one of the largest population centers for the Pueblo people.
Once at Bandelier, your guide will lead a walk through what was once a thriving community. You’ll see cliff dwellings up close, the remains of a large village with its ceremonial structures, and rock art drawings, all beside a lovely creek running through large trees below sculpted volcanic ash cliffs. For the adventurous, there are ladders to explore the cliff dwellings.
We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch from a local bakery in a delightful shady spot along the creek.
$115 per person includes: guide, transportation, entrance fees, water, snacks, lunch

Journey to Taos
8 hours

A day trip to Taos offers a vivid experience of the Southwest; stunning scenery, rich artistic traditions, and Taos Pueblo; the oldest inhabited building in the United States. The Taos tour is as much about the journey as about the actual visit to the town of Taos and the Taos Indian Pueblo.
We’ll travel through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the scenic “High Road” with breathtaking views as we climb to over 9,000 feet in elevation. Picturesque villages dot our route where long time settlers and more recently arrived artists reside in the beauty of the landscape.

Once in Taos, you’ll have time on your own to enjoy lunch in one of several downtown restaurants and to explore a bit of local color. Taos is the original center of New Mexico’s art world. We’ll proceed to Taos Pueblo to visit a Pueblo Indian village that has stood largely unchanged since prehistoric times and has been designated a UNESCO site. A native guide will provide a walking tour of the village.
We will also stop at Ranchos De Taos, once of the most beautiful and photographed churches in the US.
We’ll return to Santa Fe via the Rio Grande Gorge and the Espanola Valley.
Price: $125 per person includes: transportation, guides, entrance to Taos Pueblo, water, snacks
