Fall for Puccini Festival

No composer communicates more directly with an audience than Puccini, who once said that his success came from putting “great sorrows in little souls.” His operas tell us that at some point in their lives, people everywhere, in all walks of life, endure the same trials: love and envy, loss and heartbreak. That’s especially true in La boheme, a story set among struggling artists in the Latin Quarter of Paris and Madama Butterfly, a love that knows no boundaries that goes horribly wrong in a fateful meeting of East and West. Join Piedmont Opera and Greensboro Opera for an extraordinary opportunity to view three of Puccini’s masterpieces. Following are the events associated with the Festival. All tickets are available at Piedmont Opera except the Greensboro Opera performance, which are available at GreensborOpera.org. Tour de France, La Lunch: The Dish on Opera, Opera at the Movies – Moulin Rouge!, Dinner with a Diva & a Divo, MET Live in HD encore broadcast of Puccini’s La Fanciulla Del West (11/3 at 12:00 PM at a/perture) and Greensboro Opera presents Puccini’s Madama Butterfly are all part of the Festival.

Puccini’s La Bohème

La Bohème, the passionate, timeless, and indelible story of love among young artists in Paris, can stake its claim as the world’s most popular opera. It has a marvelous ability to make a powerful first impression and to reveal unsuspected treasures after dozens of hearings. At first glance, La Bohème is the definitive depiction of the joys and sorrows of love and loss; on closer inspection, it reveals the deep emotional significance hidden in the trivial things—a bonnet, an old overcoat, a chance meeting with a neighbor—that make up our everyday lives.
